Striving for software that lets us forget about computers.

My name is Michael Bolin and I am a graduate of MIT's Master of Engineering program in Computer Science. I am interested in designing software that people enjoy using.

Most likely you are here to download TargetAlert, my popular extension for the Firefox web browser.

My most interesting work with Firefox, however, is Chickenfoot, and end-user programming tool for the Web. Chickenfoot was the subject of my Master's thesis at MIT, End-User Programming for the Web. My thesis won the William A. Martin Memorial Thesis Prize for an outstanding Master's thesis in computer science. I also published a paper on Chickenfoot with my thesis adviser, Rob Miller, and several other members of the User Interface Design Group at MIT. The paper, entitled Automation and Customization of Rendered Web Pages, won the Best Paper Award at UIST 2005.
