As I stated in goal #2, I wanted to develop this project without spending
any cash. Thus, I limited myself to using only tools that I could download
for free from Microsoft's site.
Before downloading any .NET software from Microsoft,
I ran Windows Update
to make sure that I had the latest version of all of the service packs
and security patches (it is a good habit to periodically check this site).
After I brought my Windows software up to date, I downloaded and installed the following additional pieces of software:
